Welcome to Acclaim Magazine’s Heat of the Week for October 20, 2023. Here are our favourite new releases from Australia and around the world this week — Follow our playlist here for updates of the best new music every single Friday.

01. 3% - Our People

3%, the First Nations hip-hop collective consisting of Nooky, Dallas Woods, and Angus Field, are making their gargantuan potential known with ‘OUR PEOPLE’. It’s a powerful cut, finding each vocalist reminiscing on the trials and tribulations of their individual journeys and converging in the common ambition of thriving despite the external forces that deny the presence of them and their communities. Dallas and Nooky are passionate in their rap soliloquies, and Angus sounds triumphant with his melodies towards the latter end. Tying it together is a sample of The Presets’ 2008 single ‘MY PEOPLE’, enhancing the atmosphere with intensity.

02. Vv Pete - Mamas Car

On ‘Mamas Car’, VV Pete is bringing the sounds of Memphis to Mount Druitt. Cowbells hit consistently in the background, propelled by grimy 808s. VV’s flow is stern, hitting every flex-heavy affirmation with the precision of a sniper. This one slaps.

03. The Kid LAROI - Too Much ft. Jung Kook, Central Cee

The Kid Laroi continues his pop megastar era with ‘TOO MUCH’. This track feels instantly arena-ready, with his vehement croons soaring over vibrant synths, and Jung Kook’s sleek voice shining in harmony on the chorus. Central Cee also drops in for a verse, navigating the spacey atmosphere with witty wordplay.

04. Srirachi - Pretty Girls ft. Isaac Puerile, Hoodzy

This new Sriachi song feels destined for the club. It has a playful, high-octane energy powerful enough to make you forget about entry fees and overpriced drinks. Wonky brass and distorted bass bound to blast off on the dancefloor. Sriachi, Hoodzy, and Isaac Puerile all come through with rap frenzies, inciting the inevitability of having a damn good time when this joint plays.

05. Lola Brooke - Pit Stop ft. French Montana

The song’s called ‘Pit Stop’, but this latest Lola Brooke single hits you at full speed. Urgent trap production fills the mix, and the Brooklyn rapper’s confidence delivery is smooth and rich with swagger. French Montana drops in for a verse as well, cutting through the dark pianos of the instrumental with his classic Coke Boys charisma.

06. DoloRRes - AORA ft. JUPiTA

This latest DoloRRes track is some kind of dystopian Italo-ampiano. Eerie synths contrast the dance-ready drums, creating an atmosphere that’s both upbeat and lugubrious. The Melbourne artist delivers his smooth raps in Italian, and JUPiTA smokes her guest appearance with howling vocal lines in Spanish. It’s unique, and undeniably fire.

07. Ms Kaninna - Pinnacle Bitch

This latest single from Miss Kaninna proves that ‘Blak Britney’ wasn’t a fluke and that she really makes bangers. Frequent bass stabs make the song bounce in the low end, and the rapper oozes confidence as she cycles through a series of braggadocious bars. It’s a straightforward blast of raps, perfect for when you’re feeling yourself.

08. EKKSTACY - i cant find anyone

This new EKKSTACY track is the sonic equivalent of letting the breeze run through your hair. Dreamy guitar chords persist throughout in a downright symphony of shoegaze. The singer’s vocals are reverb-drenched, making every melody a serene echoe. It’s the perfect way to start the weekend!

09. EAST AV3 - OUTSIDE RUNNIN ft. Phi11a

EAST AV3 are known to be unpredictable when it comes to what direction they head in next, but ‘OUTSIDE RUNNIN’ finds its strength in straightforward raps. Atmospheric trap production provides plenty of space for the boys to snap, letting off triplet-flows hard enough to incite moshpits all around the country. Phi11a perfectly understood the assignment here, coming through amped up in an onslaught of bars. It bangs!

010. Danny Brown - Tantor

Danny Brown is back baby! ‘Tantor’, in classic DB fashion, is weird as hell. The Alchemist comes through with a warped, psychedelic loop that sounds like a robot malfunctioning. Danny Brown’s raps shine with his signature whiny style, emphatic yelps, and some chuckle-inducing one-liners. It’s freaky, catchy, and has us eagerly anticipating his new album, Quaranta, dropping November 17th.
